Aeronautical Telecommunications (AEROTEL)

Aeronautical Telecommunications Limited (AEROTEL) is a subsidiary of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA).

AEROTEL provides engineering and telecommunication services to the JCAA and other entities.

As a crucial supporter in air traffic management, we maintain and support critical communications and navigational systems, which are pivotal in enabling seamless air traffic within the Jamaican airspace.

The operations of AEROTEL are linked to the JCAA’s mandate of ensuring safe and efficient air traffic services.

Uncover the evolution, expertise and the unwavering commitment to excellence of AEROTEL.

AEROTEL is a premium partner of the JCAA (former Civil Aviation Department) since 1978. Our role has evolved over the years, and we currently specialise in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications, electronic, electrical, and data communication equipment.

We also serve and collaborate with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), AJAS Aviation Services, the Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ), National Meteorological Service, and Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (SITA).

Communications and Navigation Systems (CNS)

Communications and Navigation Systems (CNS) are a group of technologies that work together to ensure safe and efficient air traffic management.

Ground-to-air radios, maintained by AEROTEL, facilitate communication between air traffic controllers and aircraft. This robust communication infrastructure spans multiple sites across Jamaica and Grand Cayman, ensuring seamless coordination within the FIR.

Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Ranging / Distance Measuring Equipment (DVOR/DME) systems, also managed by AEROTEL, facilitate electronic navigation, when ground-based transmitters emit signals to aircraft receivers. This system aids in course guidance and distance measurement, to enhance flight safety within Jamaica’s airspace.

AEROTEL, a subsidiary and service provider of the JCAA, maintains Jamaica's RADAR systems. These systems offer real-time aircraft tracking and assist air traffic controllers in decision-making and safeguarding the integrity of our Flight Information Region (FIR) (i.e., airspace).

NDB stations emit omni-directional signals that provide pilots with distance information, though not directional guidance. These beacons, which are fundamental for navigation, contribute to safe travel within Jamaica's FIR.
