Kingston Air Traffic Control Centre (KATCC)

Air Traffic Controllers at the KATCC coordinate the movement of all aircraft throughout Jamaica’s FIR and with adjoining FIRs. The three (3) radar stations with multiple Ground-to-Air radio sites are interconnected using a dedicated Microwave Link, which starts at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and ends at the Donald Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. This link transports voice and data for all sites. Communication with adjoining FIRs is achieved using a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) two-way satellite ground station  and dedicated leased lines. These systems are maintained by AEROTEL Ltd.

AEROTEL provides Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN) services locally for all its clients and international customers via the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA). The AFTN is used to transport and deliver messages pertaining to aircraft movement and safety, including flight plans and weather data.

AEROTEL and Aeronautical Radio Incorporated (ARINC), in partnership with the Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), provide service to airlines traversing Jamaica’s FIR. Via this service, the airlines are able to receive and send digital operational updates.
