Statistical Analysis & Research
Unlock Insights with Statistical Analysis and Research
Welcome to the Statistical Analysis and Research hub of the JCAA’s website. We are committed to providing stakeholders with comprehensive statistics to empower informed decision-making processes.
Data Collection:
At the heart of our operations is the meticulous collection and analysis of statistics on passenger and aircraft movements at Jamaica’s airports. Our dedicated Statistical Analysis and Research Unit gathers detailed information on scheduled, non-scheduled, domestic, private, and other flights.
Contribution to ICAO
The data we receive is not just for internal use. We submit it to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), where it becomes integral to their statistical publications. These publications offer comprehensive insights into the financial and operational performance of commercial air carriers, airports, and air navigation service providers.
Air Transport Reporting:
Under the Civil Aviation (Air Transport Licensing) Regulations, all airlines operating scheduled services in Jamaica are required to submit Form 7 every month. This form includes crucial details such as aircraft type, frequency of service, and the name of the operator/airline.
Understand key terms used in our statistical analysis and reports.
Aircraft Movement: Each instance of an aircraft taking off or landing at an airport. For traffic analysis, arrivals and departures are counted as separate movements.
Private Movements: Aircraft movements conducted for non-commercial purposes, by private owners, or other private aircraft operators.
Military Movements: Aircraft movements exclusively for military purposes, using military aircraft. Movements at military airfields are not included in civil aviation statistics.
Cargo/Freight: The weight of property transported on an aircraft, encompassing items such as vehicles, excess baggage, and diplomatic bags. Excludes mail, as well as passengers’ and crew's personal baggage. Cargo in transit through the airport on the same aircraft is not included.
Scheduled Air Service: An air service available to the general public, typically operating according to a published timetable or with a regular frequency, and forming a recognizable series of flights.
Non-Scheduled Air Service: Commercial air transport service, other than scheduled air service, often tailored to meet specific needs or requests.
IFR Flight: A flight conducted in accordance with Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), that relies on instruments for navigation and control.
VFR Flight: A flight conducted in accordance with Visual Flight Rules (VFR), that relies on visual cues for navigation and control.
Domestic Movement: Movements of aircraft within Jamaican airspace, involving departures from or arrivals to points within Jamaica.
International Movement: Movements of aircraft at Jamaican airports, involving arrivals from or departures to points outside of Jamaica.
Intermediate Point: Any point in an itinerary, other than the origin and destination.
Inbound Cargo: Cargo unloaded from an aircraft, upon arrival at a Jamaican airport.
Outbound Cargo: Cargo loaded on to an aircraft, before departure from a Jamaican airport.
Overflight Rights: The privilege granted to a state to fly across another state's territory without landing, typically for scheduled or unscheduled international air services.
In-Transit Passenger: A passenger arriving and departing on the same aircraft, whether disembarking to use terminal facilities or remaining on board.
